Help! - Important Notes

*** Very Important - Please Read Before Searching ***

There are a few areas that should be reviewed before viewing the archives; we cannot stress enough the need to look over these notes first.
Please note that the terms "document(s)" and "file(s)" are used interchangeably.  All the documents have been scanned and saved as PDF files.  Adobe Acrobat Reader (a free program) is required to view the files. Adobe Acrobat is a very commonly used program for viewing files and most people will already have this program installed on their systems, if not it is freely available from Adobe by clicking this link (new window)

  1. Finding Documents
The easiest way to locate what you're looking for is to enter the word in the 'Search' box at the top of the window & click 'Search'. This will locate all files that contain this word in the unit and/or title. Example: Enter MAG-12 & you will see a list of 73 files with MAG-12 in the unit (H & MS-MAG-12, MAG-12 (FWD), MAG-12, VMA-311 MAG-12). Enter Chu & you will find 19 files containing Chu from several different Units pertaining to Chu Lai & Massachusetts Bay.
Note that this searching will find stems of words as in the case of Massachusetts containing 'Chu'. Search words are also case Insensitive (you may use upper of lower case).

  2. Document Size
Due to the size of many documents it will often appear that your browser has ‘hung’ or ‘locked up’. This is usually not the case as it may take quite some time for some large documents to complete their transfer to your computer. When you click on a document for viewing, a new window will always open up; using Abobe Acrobat Reader plug-in to view the document within the new browser window (this leaves your search results always open). Please give it a couple minutes for this new window to materialize and begin to fill in with information.

  3. Viewing Documents with Adobe Acrobat Reader
When you click on the link the document will automatically open in a new window. It may take a few moments before you'll see anything, but once it does you'll have several tools to utilize from Acrobat Acrobat.

  4. Downloading Documents to Your System
You may use the 'Save As' feature from Abobe Acrobat. This will allow you to give the file a descriptive name that you may reference in the future without having to download again.
